MCH Public Policy Director, Fatima Moore, shares her updates on Medicaid.
According To the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the “newest” version of the Senate Healthcare bill would leave 32 million people uninsured.
Efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) have largely been unsuccessful. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky) newest bill is very similar to the a bill vetoed by former President Obama in 2015. According to the CBO, 17 million more people would go without insurance in 2018 with the number rising to 32 million by 2026.
Senate leaders are reportedly offering an additional $200 billion more in an effort to win votes from fellow Republicans. However, the added dollars would do nothing to offset the massive cuts to Medicaid because $200 billion is only 17 percent of the bill’s $1.2 trillion in total cuts.
The Senate will be voting on a motion to process next week.
