Get out the vote on Election Day!

Election Day is tomorrow! As a direct service provider, you have an important role in helping shelter guests and housing residents exercise their right to vote.

You or your clients may vote if they don’t have a permanent address.

People experiencing homelessness can register to vote using the location of where they sleep as their address. This could be a shelter, a friend’s house, or an outside location.

You and your clients may register to vote on Election Day. Voters will need either proof of residence, or someone to vouch for them (a neighbor or residential facility staff member):

1) Proof of residence

2) A registered voter from your precinct can go with you to the polling place to sign an oath confirming where you live.

3) Staff members at shelters and residential facilities can vouch for eligible voters living in the facility who do not have proof of residence. The staff person must prove their employment at the facility. There are several ways to do this, including by showing an employee badge. Learn more.

For questions about vouching or voting when you are experiencing homelessness, please refer to the Secretary of State’s website or contact the Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless for help.

In this election, it’s critically important that we raise our voices and provide every opportunity for every eligible voter to cast their ballot.

Sincerely,
